About

The original Casa Verdugo Branch opened in 1926 as a "deposit station" on Central Avenue. In 1951 a new library building, along with a neighboring fire station, was erected at in its current location. The cost of the land, architect, construction, furniture, fixtures and landscaping, for the Branch alone, totaled $68,229.26. On April 9, 1951, Mayor George Wickham dedicated the building and Miss Carol Schmida of Hoover High School played an accordion solo at the dedication event.
