The library was built in 1953 and was initially named the Thomas Luther Holcomb Library in honor of Dr. T.L. Holcomb, a leading Southern Baptist minister and corresponding secretary of the Baptist School Board from 1935 to 1953. The library was renamed in later years to honor Susie McClure, known for her work in the Baptist Church throughout the country, and is a member of Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee.
